Middle Eastern Countries

What is Halal Food?
The Qu’ran outlines forbidden and permissible food, and the permissible food is known as halal food. Some of the foods and drinks considered haram, or forbidden, are alcohol, pork, animals not properly slaughtered, and land dwelling animals that do not have external ears.
Middle Eastern Spices
Some of the species characteristic of Middle Eastern cuisine include cumin, nutmeg, cardamom, turmeric, sumac, Baharat, caraway, anise, allspice, and cinnamon. These spices add to the richness of flavor characterizing Middle Eastern food.
Ingredients
Lentils, chickpeas, olives, beans, and vegetables are considered staples of this region’s dishes. Middle Eastern meats include beef, lamb, and chicken. Often, these dishes are accompanied by a serving of fresh pita bread, which can be used to wrap food or to pick it up.
